Ban All Foreign Content – Hon. Desmond Elliot
By Dipo Omoware
Honourable Member, Lagos State House of Assembly and Nollywood Actor Desmond Elliot has called for a ban on all foreign content so local content can thrive.
The lawmaker said this in an interview with HipTV.
The Nollywood actor, who has starred in over 200 hundred films as well as co-produced and directed a few said there are three things government needs to do to grow the film industry.
“First, they need to create an enabling environment for this industry to thrive. Secondly, they need to consciously intentionally focus on building the industry, treat it like you’re importing rice, okay you know, so you ban all foreign content, make it difficult for foreign to come in so your local content can grow and then you need to support (it).” He said.
The Nollywood actor has always spoken out in the past about the potential of the entertainment industry. He was first elected as a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly in 2015 and he returned to the state assembly in the 2019 election.
