ASUU Begins Two Weeks Warning Strike
By Precious Nnenna Okon
Nigeria public varsity students will be out of school for at least the next two weeks after The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) began a two-week warning strike over non-payment of lecturers.
President of ASUU, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi revealed this on Monday at a National Executive Council meeting in Enugu.
According to Prof Ogunyemi, the strike is as a result of the non-payment of lecturers not enrolled in the Federal Government’s Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System. Poor funding and proliferation of Universities are also reasons for the strike.
He adds that the strike is aimed at compelling the FG to implement the agreement and resolution of Memorandum of Action it had with the union from 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2019.
