ASSAULT: POLICE IG ORDERS INVESTIGATION OF SENATOR

The Inspector General of Police, Mohammad Adamu, has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault on a lady by a serving Senator Abbo Elisha.
A statement issued today by Force Spokesman, Frank Mbah, said the IGP specifically directed the FCT Police Commissioner, Bala Ciroma to provide a personal and round-the-clock supervision of every facet of the investigation. The investigation will also include the Forensic Analysis of the video currently in circulation on social media, as well as the actions/inactions of the policeman seen in the video footage.
The IGP assured Nigerians of utmost professionalism by the Police in handling of the matter, promising that the Force will ensure that justice is done in this case.
Meanwhile, the FCT Police Commissioner, Bala Ciroma has already established contact with the victim of the assault and has equally commenced investigation into the case.
Meanwhile, Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has condemned the alleged assault perpetrated by Senator Abbo. Writing on his Twitter page, Atiku insisted the senator’s action was “inexcusable” noting that however that “the law is clear and leaders must lead by example.”
“I’ve seen the alleged assault video involving Sen. Elisha Abbo,” Atiku said. “The video is sad. I advise him to publicly apologize, voluntarily go to the police and show a good example expected of a young leader.”
In a related development the Nigerian Senate has set up a committee to probe Senator Abbo for allegedly assaulting a woman in Abuja in a sex toy shop. The decision was reached on Wednesday in Abuja.
