APPEAL COURT RESERVES JUDGEMENT ON OSUN GOVERNORSHIP CASE
The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja has reserved judgement in the election petition filed by Osun State governor Gboyega Oyetola challenging the verdict of the State’s election petition tribunal which nullified his election.
Justice Jummai Sankey who announced the judgement after taking arguments from parties on the appeals said that judgement has been reserved and that parties will be informed as soon as they are ready.
Governor Gboyega Oyetola, the All Progressive Congress and the Independent National Electoral Commission had in three separately filed appeals, asked the appellate court to set aside the March 22nd, 2019 judgement of the Osun state election petition tribunal which decleared Senator Ademola Adeleke as winner of the Osun gubernatorial election. Furthermore, they urged the court to dismiss the cross-appeal filed by Adeleke and the PDP.
The three-man tribunal had in the majority judgement upheld the People’s Democratic Party’s (PDP) petition as well as that of its candidate Senator Ademola Adeleke in the election, voiding Oyetola and APC’s victory at the polls.
