Anambra State Government has restated its readiness to host the 2020 Police games even as concerns raised over the unavailability of sporting facilities in the state.
Over five thousand athletes are expected in the state from the 12 Police Zonal Commands and the Headquarters, Abuja, to compete across a variety of sporting activities in the competition which is a biennial event.
The Anambra 2020 Police Games scheduled to take place from the 28th of February till the 8th of March, 2020 at various venues across the state, appears unrealistic to many in the state especially as the date is almost at hand.
But while speaking to correspondent Kenechukwu Ofomah, the Chairman of the State Sports Development Commission, Mr Tony Olih said Anambra State being the first in the Southeast to host the event, is geared to organize a successful sporting event.
"Anambra people will witness a kind of boom in social and sporting activities and we expect the hospitality of Anambra people will be extended to all the guests will also describe Anambra 2020 as the best Police game that has ever taken place."
The Force Secretary and Chairman, Nigeria Police Sports Committee, AIG Usman Alkali said the Games over the years has produced renowned sports men and women who flew the country’s flag in both national and international sporting events.
"Facilities are ready, the ones that are not ready now, we are working day and night. For your information even the Olympics, Tokyo started preparing years back but as at today, they are still working. The key thing for us is that on the day of the event that the event will take place. The work we are doing now is not the issue, it is the endpoint that matters."
