Anambra FRSC Talks Tough

The Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has urged drivers in the state to avoid unsafe acts that endanger their lives and that of other road users.
Sector Commander in Anambra, Andrew Kumakpayi said this as the FRSC launched a Special Night Operation aimed at bringing to book motorists who indulge in unsavoury acts.
14 overloaded trucks and buses have already been impounded with support from other security agencies since the operation kicked off last night.
Speaking to Nigeria Info correspondent Kenechukwu Ofomah in Awka, the Sector Commander, Andrew Kumakpayi said overloading is a leading cause of road crashes and warned drivers to shun the negative practice.
“My advice for them (drivers) is not to overload their vehicles, they should ensure that their vehicles are in good order and they should not use improvised extra lights on their vehicles to blind other road users”
He also urged all road users to “obey traffic rules and regulations” saying that safety on the roads is a responsibility for all.
“We are very committed in ensuring that we have a safe motorable environment during this ember months period, we are going to mechanic villages, we are going to churches, mosques, public spaces even to the community to sensitise them and passing the safety messages to them. All hands must be on deck to ensure there is safety on the roads.”
