16 Teams Qualify for Zenith Bank Conference Playoffs
The 2019 Zenith Women’s Basketball League has reached its National Conference Phase after the conclusion of the group games across four venues.
Nigerian Army Amazons, Kaduna Angels, Taraba Hurricanes and Adamawa Flames all progressed to the next round from the Savannah Conference.
In the North Central Division, Air Warriors, Nigerian Customs- 2018 Zenith Bank Women’s Basketball League Bronze Medalist- Plateau Rocks and Black Gold Queens all made it through as well.
First Bank of Lagos were unbeaten in the South West Division, winning all eight games, ahead of rivals Dolphins who won six games and also progressed.
Ogun Babes and Oluyole Babes qualified from the Atlantic Conference while MFM of Lagos- who won all their 10 games- as well as Sunshine Angels- who edged Delta Force on superior head-to-head indices after both finishing on 16 points- also scaled through to the Conference Phase.
IGP Queens of Lagos picked the last ticket from the zone despite finishing fourth ahead of 2017 League finalists, First Deep Waters.
The new format which was recently introduced by the Nigerian Basketball Federation is targeted at increasing the number of games to be played per season.
Dates and venues for the Savannah and Atlantic Conferences of the competition will be announced in the coming days.
