The Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Management Board, Dr. Kinikanwo Green has reiterated that vaccines are free across the state health centers.
Dr Kinikanwo said this when he paid an unscheduled visit to Obio Cottage and Rumuokwurusi Health Centres today over allegations that the staff of these hospitals sells infant vaccines to mothers.
He also disclosed that the Board is investigating the report and disciplinary actions will be taken against anyone found culpable.
It comes after some mothers accused Obio Cottage Hospital and Rumuokwurusi Health Centre of selling vaccines.
Earlier, one of the mothers who spoke anonymously to our correspondent said the vaccines are sold for between N1200 and N13,000. She said when mothers and pregnant women questioned why they need to pay for free vaccines in a WhatsApp group created for those under the Community Health Insurance Scheme of the hospital, they were told the vaccines are not available.
The management of Obio Cottage Hospital in Port Harcourt had declined immediate comment on the matter saying an official response will be issued.
