Ramadan Oladipupo and Ruth Okorocha have earned places in the semifinals of the ongoing 'I Beg To Differ' Tournament of Champions following their impressive performances in the quarterfinals.
In the first debate session, Ramadan Oladipupo and Fabian Chigbundu faced off on the topic: "Employers Should be Able to Consider an Applicant’s Social Media Activity During a Job Application."
Fabian argued in favour of the motion, stating that an individual's social media activity gives insight into their character and ideals, which can help employers determine if their values align with those of the company.
However, Ramadan countered this by stating that social media can be misleading, and individuals may not express themselves accurately on these platforms.
After thorough deliberation, the judges awarded the win to Ramadan Oladipupo, who scored 355 points compared to Fabian Chigbndu's 279 points.
The second debate session was equally intense, with Ruth Okorocha and Musa Nicholas debating the topic: "Sports & Politics Should Be Kept Separate On The Global Stage."
Musa, the motion opposer, argued that politics in sports could help break down barriers, while Ruth emphasized that sports should be kept separate from politics as powerful nations might impose themselves on weaker nations, leading to division.
Ruth Okorocha convincingly defeated Musa Nicholas with a cumulative score of 363 points to 299 points.
With their impressive performances, Ramadan Oladipupo and Ruth Okorocha have joined Tanvita Koushik in the semifinals of the tournament.
The last quarterfinal match will see Debrah Pamzat take on Stephanie Ehi Ameh on Wednesday at 4 pm.
