Former Rivers PDP Publicity Secretary, Darlington Orji, has explained how former PDP national chairman, Uche Secondus, was ousted as the party chairman, and how the current chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, emerged.
The party’s chairmanship position has been a subject of controversy in recent times, with some sections of the party calling for the resignation of Ayu.
In an attempt to set the record straight, Mr Orji told Ifiemi Andrew on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire that an agreement was reached that the party’s presidential candidate, and the party chairman, should not come from the same zone.
When asked if the Deputy Chairman of the party would fill in if Ayu steps aside, he confirmed that the party is currently in a “quagmire”, regarding the situation.
“No, that’s where the problem is now. We have pushed ourselves to a position of quagmire, so we have a challenge and we must resolve it because we are talking about moral issues now,” he said.
