The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC in Rivers state, Beatrice Itubo has condemned the current hike in petrol pump prices in Rivers state.

Itubo who spoke on Nigeria Info FM Morning Crossfire described the situation as ‘’unbearable, unacceptable and wicked’’, warning that labour will commence industrial action if the lingering petrol scarcity is not addressed this week.

The Rivers NLC Chairman also accused the Rivers state government of deceit in its ongoing pension verification exercise for the payment of gratuities and arrears to pensioners in the state.

The Rivers state government had announced that a billion naira be paid monthly to clear off a backlog of arrears and gratuities owed pensioners in the state.

“It is a whitewash… Nothing is happening” says Itubo.

Itubo, who is also the Rivers Labour Party Governorship Candidate urged workers in the state to elect credible leaders in the forthcoming general elections, stating that frequent protests will not solve the problem.
