Water Producers Association of Nigeria, WAPAN, has said the cost of production has continued to affect the price of sachet potable water in Rivers State.
Chairman of the association in the state, Egberi Mackson, told Ifiemi Andrew on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire that private water producers rely on diesel because electricity supplied by the power distribution company cannot power the machines used for production.
“75% of us rely on diesel and you know the diesel now is like you mining for gold…a gallon of diesel that normally cost N3,500 before is now way above N16,000”, he revealed.
He also added that private water producers play an important role in proving potable water, and the government’s provision of potable drinking water would not lighten the burden or reliance on private water producers.
