The Rivers State Spokesperson for the United Community Development Committee (CDCs), Harrison Nwosu, is hopeful about a better partnership between local council chairmen and communities to improve the well-being of the people.
Mr Nwosu made this known on Nigeria Info FM’s Morning Crossfire while reacting to a Supreme Court judgment ordering the direct payment of local government allocations.
According to him, the relationship between CDCs and local government chairmen has been poor, leading to developmental failures in local communities. He also expressed concern about the lack of needs assessment projects.
Speaking further, Mr Nwosu called for the establishment of laws that would integrate community development committees into the local government's administrative framework. He believes that such laws would complement the financial autonomy of local councils and lead to significant development for grassroots communities.
