The President General of the Orashi Youth Forum, Chiwokwa Nweze, has lamented the impact of the deplorable state of the East-West Road on local communities in the Ahoada East and West Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

In an interview on Nigeria Info FM’s Morning Crossfire, Mr Nweze expressed his dissatisfaction with the condition of the Kaiama-Ahoada section of the East-West Road, which was destroyed by the 2022 floods. He questioned why the region faces such challenges despite being an oil-producing area in Nigeria.

Mr Nweze noted that the condition of some internal roads in these communities has worsened due to the increased number of vehicles using them as alternative routes to avoid the severely damaged section of the East-West Road.

The youth leader also refuted claims that locals exploit the situation to extort money from motorists. He called on the Rivers State Government to quickly repair the problematic sections of the road to ease the pressure on local communities.

Recently, President Bola Tinubu assured at an event in Port Harcourt that the rehabilitation of the East-West Road, which connects Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States, will be completed.
