Actor and Comedian, Daniel Chibuzor Nwoka, popularly known as Dan D’ Humorous has urged record label owners to ensure fairness in the drafting of music contracts binding the signing of new artistes to their labels.
Dan D’ Humorous gave the charge on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, lamenting the exploitation of new artistes through draconian clauses by some record labels in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
He noted that unsuspecting upcoming artistes fall victim to these acts due to the desperation to rise to stardom.
The actor and comedian stressed that while new artistes are expected to meticulously read to understand the component of the contract, record label owners should ensure the terms of agreements for signing an artiste are favourable in other to avoid any conflict of interest in the future.
Nigeria’s entertainment industry has mostly been engulfed in a series of disagreements between some record label owners and their newly signed artistes.
The most recent being between music label, Marlian Records and former signee Ilerioluwa Promise Oladimeji popularly known as Mohbad who suddenly passed away. Fans of the late singer have continued to call for justice over an unclear cause of death.
