Nigeria has been listed among African countries whose citizens can now apply for qualified teacher status through the Teaching Regulation Agency in the United Kingdom from February 2023.

The announcement was made in a publication on the UK government’s website through its Department for Education.

Some teachers responding to this announcement on Nigeria Info FM’s Hello Port Harcourt told Jude Omamegbe that they would not hesitate to take advantage of such an opportunity.

A caller, Gift, said his decision would be based on the inconsistency in the payment of retired teachers’ pensions.

“…after your 35 years of service, no pension…the government, they are not helping matters here,” he said.

Another teacher, Deinma, said her choice would be due to the fact that she desires a supportive and enabling environment.

“The reason why I would go to the UK is because I want to improve myself, I need an environment that would support me being a very good teacher,” she explained.
