The question of when to introduce children to the complexities of the world has once again been brought to the fore on Nigeria Info’s Sunny Side.
The conversation highlighted the challenges parents face in navigating the line between protecting children from the harsh realities of society and preparing them to become informed and engaged citizens.
One caller argued that children should be introduced to current events as soon as they can read and write. He believes that by exposing them to the realities of the world early on, they can develop a strong foundation for understanding societal dynamics.
“As soon as the child can read and write, he or she should be fed with the happenings so that they have these things in their subconscious,” he said.
A parent called in and shared his approach to discussing social issues with his children. “I don’t hide anything from the children, I discuss it as much as I can filter it,” he said.
He also recalled an instance where his child observed a security officer collecting money from motorists and asked about it.
