As Nigeria steps into 2025, critical questions linger about governance and development.

With some states still grappling with basic obligations to workers, many are left asking: will the conversation finally extend to the grassroots? This took centre stage during a recent discussion about the New Year and expectations from the Federal Government, state, and local governments on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire.

A caller, Chima, expressed frustration over Nigeria’s misplaced priorities, contrasting the nation's campaigns with those of advanced countries. He lamented that statements about roads and schools reflect how far governance has fallen short, leaving citizens to demand basic rights as though they were luxuries.

The dialogue quickly turned to accountability at the state level and what should be used as a yardstick for governance.
