The Rivers State Commissioner for Youth Development, Chisom Gbali, has disclosed that the Ministry of Youth Development recycled its budget during the previous administration of former governor Nyesom Wike.

Speaking on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, Mr Gbali lamented the poor state of the ministry and how its ineffectiveness over the past eight years has hindered youth development in the state.

However, he noted that Governor Siminalayi Fubara is attentive to the challenges faced by the youth and is committed to revitalising their prospects. Mr Gbali said the state government has approved a series of programs to engage the youth across the state, although some council chairmen have resisted these initiatives within their jurisdictions.

The Commissioner explained that the programs are designed to address behavioural issues stemming from years of inactivity among the youth.

Mr Gbali announced that on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, the governor will flag off a resource centre aimed at bridging the gap between academic education and contemporary skills needed in society. The centre will offer training in artificial intelligence, ICT, solar energy, waste recycling, and more, preparing the youth for the labour market.

He emphasised that these projects, based on four key principles, are comprehensive and even include aspects of entertainment.
