The Rivers State Police Command says plans are on to resist any form of protest in the state following the outcome of the September 6, Presidential Election Petition judgment in Abuja.

Rivers Police Spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko made this known on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire.

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, PEPT had delivered judgment upholding the victory of President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC after dismissing petitions filed by Presidential candidates of the Labour Party, LP; People Democratic Party, PDP, and the Allied Peoples Movement, APM.

Iringe-Koko also spoke on the ‘Zero Crime Initiative’ program recently launched by the command to curb criminal activities in the state. She explained that the command will embark on a roadshow as part of activities marking the launch of the ‘Zero Crime Initiative’ in which the state Commissioner of Police is expected to visit different local governments in the state to sensitize residents on the effect of crime in the state.

The Rivers Police Spokesperson added that the event scheduled to begin September 14, 2023, is aimed at building a better relationship between the police force and residents.

Responding to the legality of police checkpoints following complaints of extortion by residents, Iringe-Koko noted that while checkpoints are legal and meant to combat crimes, the Command strongly condemns any act of extortion by police officers at checkpoints.

She revealed that a monitoring team has been created to monitor the activities of police officers across the state. The Rivers police spokesperson urged members of the public to report any form of police extortion in their area.
