PDP Primaries: Why Zoning and Incentivization?

You are viewing content from Nigeria Info, Let's Talk! Port-Harcourt. Would you like to make this your preferred location?

Former president Atiku Abubakar's emergence over the weekend as the flag bearer of the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 presidential race continues to generate reactions.

While the subject of zoning to the south resurrects to the fore in the aftermath of his victory, reports of incentivization of delegates at the primaries, however, cast aspersions on the reputation of all involved, if not the entire process.

On the Sunny Side, Joyce Onyemuwa was interested to know if the PDP should have zoned the presidential ticket to the south?

This is to help douse the flames that arise from the perception that there is a monopoly of power in Nigeria.

Furthermore, do delegates who receive incentives to vote still pick their preferred candidate regardless?

For one caller, 2023 will "determine the fate of Nigeria" following the PDP's decision to jettison the proposed zoning formula.

"Are we now saying that as a country, we will perpetually be governed by a particular section of the country?" she questioned.

Another caller who is dissatisfied with the choice of the PDP delegates in Atiku, however, thinks "Nigerians can no longer be deceived."

Where then should our trust lie ahead of 2023?
