Optometrist Mba Eke has advocated for more public awareness of the dangers of mobile phone addiction and its potential impact on eye health.

Eke, who was a guest on Nigeria Info’s Sunny Side, made this call on the 2023 World Sight Day and said as people are spending more and more time staring at their phones and computer screens, they are exposing their eyes to “harmful radiation”.

Apart from a healthy diet and getting regular eye exams to check for any signs of eye damage, he advises the use of protective glasses and taking breaks every 20 minutes to look away from screens and focus on something distant.

By taking these preventive measures, he says one can protect the eyes from things that may predispose people to eye issues, and keep one’s vision healthy.
