Nigerian parents have shared their perspectives on child safety and how intentional parents should be when creating safe spaces for their children. The Sunny Side conversation also touched on potential hazards to children in a safe and controlled environment.

One caller, Austin, mentioned proactive steps like removing gas appliances from his home due to his children's natural curiosity.

“I told my wife we are not going to use gas in this house anymore. It's either the hot plate or we use stove. I know they are all dangerous, but then, you can manage handling kerosene, I can manage handling the hot plate, but you see, gas, I know how dangerous it is,” he said.

Another caller, Gift, stressed the importance of explaining dangers to children while also removing hazards they can easily access.

“We have to be intentional because the truth is that sometimes when the disaster comes, even though it doesn't happen to us directly, because it happens to our children, it's also affecting us directly,” he noted.
