Reactions have continued to trail the recent statement by the People's Democratic Party presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar at the Arewa Joint Committee Townhall meeting.

The presidential candidate said: "I think what the average northerner needs is somebody who is from the north, and who also understands the other parts of Nigeria and who has been able to build bridges across the rest of the country."

“This is what the northerner needs. The northerner doesn’t need a Yoruba candidate or an Igbo candidate. This is what the northerner needs," he added.

Several callers on Nigeria Info's Hard Facts believe Atiku's statement contradicts his claim that he is a 'unifier'.

Others berated him for using ethnicity as a means to secure votes.

Meanwhile, the Director of Voter Intelligence, Strategy and Policy of the PDP Presidential Campaign Council, Osita Chidoka, said Atiku need not apologise because his comment warrants no form of apology.
