The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo, has rejected a police report about a factional clash at the Model Primary Health Care Centre, Eliozu, in Port Harcourt Metropolis on Wednesday.

Speaking on Nigeria Info FM’s Morning Crossfire, Mr Ihunwo accused the Rivers State Police Command of misleading the public and showing bias amid ongoing political tensions. The police in a statement reported that supporters of two rival political factions in the state clashed.

He claimed that women and children attending a medical program organised by the Rivers State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the State Primary Healthcare Board, at the health centre were teargassed and harassed by the police.

Mr Ihunwo also alleged that embattled Speaker Martin Amaewhule was behind the attack on the health centre due to its proximity to his father’s residence. He asserted that the attack was a deliberate attempt to damage the state's reputation and create grounds for declaring a state of emergency.
