Deputy General Secretary of the Senior Staff Association of Electricity and Allied Companies, Innocent Lord-Douglas, has explained that the frequent collapse of the national grid is not the sole reason behind Nigeria’s power challenges.
Speaking on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, he stated factors contributing to inconsistent power supply, especially among Band A electricity users in the country. He pointed to the limitations of some Distribution Companies (DisCos) and feeders as key culprits.
Lord-Douglas explained that certain DisCos and their infrastructure lack the capacity to deliver the required hours of electricity mandated for Band A users. He said this shortfall in capacity results in Band A customers receiving less power than expected, despite their classification.
The union leader further revealed that the initial move to segregate electricity consumers into different bands was met with resistance, noting that the division was perceived as unfair to many users.
