Aide Insists Local Govt Workers Are Receiving Salaries As Allegations Persist

President General of GDI, Bright Amaewhule, insists that the Rivers State Government is withholding the salaries of civil servants and political appointees in local governments.

This accusation comes despite a statement from the state government denying that it withheld any salaries of civil servants in the local government areas.

Mr Amaewhule made his claim on Nigeria Info’s Morning Crossfire, condemning the alleged actions of the state government and suggesting that they are intended to frustrate the local councils.

In response, Darlington Orji, an aide to the Rivers State Governor, Siminialayai Fubara and a guest on the Morning Crossfire, denied the allegations and emphasised that local government workers are being paid. However, he accused local government chairmen of poor performance in their councils.

The discussion about withholding funds for local government workers has intensified the already tense political climate in the state.
