Top Terrorist Commander, 22 Others Surrender -Defence Headquarters

One of the most wanted Boko Haram commanders, Saleh Mustapha has surrendered to the Nigerian military.

The Director of Defence Media Operations (DMO), Major General Bernard Onyeuko disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja. 

He said the commander surrendered with 22 others, bringing the total number of terrorists who have surrendered so far to 51,114.

Major Onyeuko described it as a significant milestone in Nigeria’s counter-insurgency operation.

He also outlined a list of items recovered from terrorists during a raid on a terrorist stronghold around Ukba/Camp Zairo in Sambisa forest. 

They include one battle tank, a Mine Resistance Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle, a MOWAG Armored Personnel Carrier, three-gun trucks, five artillery guns, two GTS, three AA guns and two RPG tubes.

Other items recovered include three RPG rockets, three RPG bombs, one NSVT gun, two GPMG, one light MG, one PKM, three GPMG belts, and four belts of PKT rounds.

In addition to the ground offensive, the air component of the military’s ‘Operation Hadin Kai’ bombarded the weapon depot of ISWAP terrorists at Bukar Meiram, killing several terrorists.
