The Senate has set up a nine man ad-hoc committee to investigate the illegal annexation of Nigeria's territory by neighbouring Cameroon.

The committee was set up following a debate on the motion sponsored by Senator Aniekan Bassey.

In his lead debate, Senator Bassey lamented the loss of sixteen ancestral communities and 2,560 oil wells in  Akwa Ibom state to Cameroon as a result of the 2002 World Court judgement.

In their contributions, senators from Cross River, Adamawa, and Ogun states equally drew the attention of the Senate to similar situations in their various states.

Other lawmakers also expressed dismay over the implementation of the ICJ judgement describing it as one-sided and called for a total review.

The lawmakers thereafter resolved the Senator Jimoh Ibrahim-led ad-hoc committee urge President Bola Tinubu to take steps to ensure that the territorial integrity is preserved.
