The Senate has suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months over her dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The Kogi Central senator was suspended during Thursday’s plenary for allegedly violating the Senate Standing Rules.

The decision followed the presentation of a report by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Code of Conduct, led by Chairman Neda Imasuen. After the report was reviewed, Senate President Akpabio put the recommendations to a voice vote, and the suspension was upheld.

Despite appeals from several lawmakers, including Minority Leader Abba Moro, who pushed for a reduced penalty, the Senate moved forward with the suspension.

However, the Senate resolved that the ban could be lifted if Akpoti-Uduaghan submits a written apology for violating the chamber’s rules.
