The Rivers State House of Assembly has issued a notice of alleged misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu, officially initiating the process for their impeachment.
According to a notice obtained on Monday, the Assembly stated that the action was taken in compliance with Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and other relevant laws.
The development fuels speculation about Governor Fubara’s possible impeachment, especially after the Supreme Court recently recognized 27 lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Last week, during a media chat, Wike supported the idea of impeachment if due process was followed.
"Politics is not play. If he has done something to be impeached, let them impeach him. It’s not a criminal offence," Wike said.
The unfolding situation intensifies the political tension between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, raising concerns about the stability of governance in Rivers State.
