The coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, Rigobert Song, has assured the team’s fans that his boys have everything necessary to defeat Nigeria in Saturday’s AFCON Round-16 match.
Nigeria and Cameroon will clash for the eighteenth time in a competitive match at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, with Nigeria having won nine and Cameroon four of their previous encounters.
Song, whose Cameroon team struggled during the group stage with one loss, one draw, and a win to qualify second behind Senegal, says the Indomitable Lions have studied the Super Eagles and will keep improving.
"We are not going to miss our chances. It's going to be a tough match but we are very ready for it,” he said.
“At this level of the competition, you stick to positive things and correct all other negatives.
“I'm not calculating anything anymore. Our players know what is expected of them and we have made sure we put what is necessary for the win in place," he boasted.
Song’s belief is buoyed by the Indomitable Lions’ ability to defeat big teams.
“I know Nigeria is a very good team. It’s never been easy against them. They are a team that we must take very seriously. When we play against a serious team, we also step up,” he said.
“We have to score and for us to progress we need to win this game.
“It is true that we've already conceded six goals but I believe that tomorrow (Saturday) we'll find the formula that will make us not to concede.
“The team with the best organization, tactically and mentally, will win tomorrow’s match.”
Song also hinted at plans to stop Nigerian striker Victor Osihmen from being effective on the pitch.
“He is the best player in Africa. We know his value and worth. He is in a club with one of our players.
"This doesn't mean we should be afraid of him. Tomorrow (Saturday) we'll approach the match based on thephilosophy that we want to win the match," Song enthused.
Meanwhile, Cameroon forward Faris Pemi Moumbagna says the players will give 200 percent against Nigeria.
“We're going to be approaching tomorrow’s game 200 percent. We'll give all we have just like we did againstThe Gambia and we are expecting a very good result," Faris affirmed.
The match will be played on Saturday, 27 January, at 9 pm Nigerian time.
