About a thousand parliamentary workers in Kano joined their counterparts across Nigeria on Tuesday to shut down the State House of Assembly complex over agitation for financial autonomy for state legislatures.

Nigeria Info observed that the workers barricaded the gates to the complex, denying lawmakers access to the facility.

Also, we observed that the parliamentary workers pinned green leaves to the main gate of the State House of Assembly to show their solidarity with the strike.

Their action followed the expiration of the ultimatum given to state governments for financial autonomy implementation in legislative houses in the country.

The chairman of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), Kano State chapter, Comrade Bashir Yahaya, demanded total compliance until their demands are met.

"We are over a thousand, but everybody is currently at home. We are demanding 100 percent compliance, and I assure you that the complex will not be open until our demands are met".

The association is demanding full implementation of financial autonomy and the Consolidated Legislative Salary Structure (CONLESS).
