The World Trade Organization's (WTO) Director General (DG), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has formally declared her desire to run for a second, four-year term in office.

Okonjo-Iweala announced her bid for a second term more than a month after 58 member nations backed the African Group of the WTO's proposal for her to lead the organization for an additional term.

In a statement to Reuters on Monday, Okonjo-Iweala expressed her readiness to "compete."

She said, “I would like to be part of this chapter of the WTO story, and I stand ready to compete for the position.”

“For my second term, I intend to focus on delivering.”

One of the top goals, according to her, was taking care of "unfinished business."
