Argentine maestro Lionel Messi has won the Ballon d’Or, securing an unprecedented eighth title. The prestigious award was also bestowed upon Spanish midfielder Aitana Bonmati in the women's category.

Messi's latest triumph comes on the back of his stellar performance with the Argentine national team in the 2022 World Cup, where they secured victory against France in the final. This victory marked a historic moment for Messi, who not only lifted the World Cup for the first time but also earned the coveted Golden Ball award for the tournament's outstanding player.

Meanwhile, Barcelona's dynamic midfielder Bonmati clinched her inaugural Women's Ballon d'Or. Her pivotal role in Spain's inaugural World Cup triumph in August, coupled with a league and Champions League double at club level, earned her this esteemed recognition. Bonmati was recently named UEFA Women's Player of the Year.

Erling Haaland, whose remarkable 52-goal performance contributed to Manchester City's treble success in the 2022/2023 campaign, secured second place in the Ballon d'Or rankings and was honored with the Gerd Muller Trophy for the best striker of the year.

Emiliano Martinez, a vital figure in Messi's Argentine squad, was awarded the Yashin Trophy for the best goalkeeper. Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham clinched the Kopa Trophy, making him the world's best U-21 footballer.
