The Anambra State House of Assembly has adjourned sitting with no appointed date for resumption, as a protest over the beheading of the member representing Aguata Constituency II, Okechukwu Okoye.

The late Hon. Okoye and his aide, Cyril Chiegboka were kidnapped on 15 May.

On 21 May, their severed heads were dropped on the ground at Amichi town in Anambra State.

Their killing and those of others led to the declaration of a curfew in seven Local Government Areas of Anambra where armed men had been targeting.

At their last plenary on Tuesday, the lawmakers observed a minute of silence for the slain lawmaker and also reportedly complained about the lack of personal security for them by the state.

The Speaker of the House, Uche Okafor commiserated with the family of the deceased and challenged security agents to bring the killers to book.

"It is quite painful looking at the seat of the deceased lawmaker and he is not there.

"While we wish to commiserate with the entire Anambra State over this irreparable loss, we wish to call on the security agencies to expedite actions towards bringing these hoodlums to justice," he said.

The speaker also urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to work harder in improving security in Anambra State.

While moving the motion for the House to adjourn sine die, the majority leader and member representing Awka South Constituency II, Nnamdi Okafor described the late Hon. Okoye as a dedicated lawmaker.
