Residents of Kado Village, in the Life Camp area of Abuja, have decried the government's neglect of their community despite its proximity to the city centre.

The residents voiced their frustration at the weekend when the Lions Club donated a 5,000-litre solar-powered water project to the village.

They appealed to well-meaning non-governmental organisations to assist the community in renovating its only primary school and provide it with other basic amenities.

Speaking at the commissioning of the project, the chief of Kado village, Esu Danlami Audu explained that the community-owned primary school is in a deplorable condition, and without water supply.

Esu Audu who expressed the community's gratitude to the club said residents had over the years sourced water from unhygienic sources, making them susceptible to outbreaks of communicable diseases.

In his words, "We will need assistance in the areas of electricity, health clinics, and other things.

“The school project that we have here was initiated and developed by the community.

"We've all been crying to the government and no effort has been done.

“That's why I am appealing to the Lions Club to assist us in the LEA primary school in Kado, especially in the Water project, the borehole we have there doesn't supply water to the school.

“That's why I am seeking more assistance to the primary school for the sake of our children."
