The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced dates for the governorship elections in Edo and Ondo States.
The Edo State election will take place on Saturday 21 September 2024 while that of Ondo State will be on Saturday 16 November 2024.
INEC's National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Sam Olumekun, announced this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
The party primaries for the Edo Governorship Election will be held from 1 - 24 February 2024 while the submission of the list of nominated candidates will commence on 4 March 2024 and end on 24th.
Olumekun said the final list of candidates will be published on 23 April 2024 while political campaigns will begin on 24 April 2024 and end on 19 September 2024.
Similarly, party primaries will run in Ondo State from 6 - 27 April 2024, while the online submission of the list of nominated candidates will take place from 29 April to 20 May 2024.
The final list of candidates will be published on 18 June 2024 with political campaigns beginning on 19 June 2024 and ending 24 hours before election day.
The Ondo Governorship Election will take place on 14 November 2024.
INEC appealed to political parties and their supporters in both states to play by the rules.
