Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, flagged off the reconstruction and dualization of the 2.6km Lodge Road that links the Murtala Mohammed Roundabout to the Government House on Thursday.

The Murtala Mohammed Roundabout cuts through Race Course, Lodge Road, and terminates at the government house, a 2.6-kilometer span.

While flagging off the project at Murtala Mohammed Roundabout, Governor Yusuf said the contract was awarded to Radoc Construction Nigeria Limited.

The cost and the time frame for the entire project were not disclosed.

The governor highlighted the socio-economic benefit of the reconstruction and talked about the ease of transportation in the area.

Earlier, the Commissioner of the Ministry of Works and Housing, Engr. Marwan Ahmed acknowledged the project as part of Governor Yusuf’s urban renewal initiative and said it would boost the state’s economy.

According to the commissioner, “the relevance of this road in the economic and administrative space of our dear state cannot be overemphasized.”

Citing the government’s readiness to tackle Kano’s transportation problems, Engr. Ahmed said the project came at the right time.

He also said that Radoc Construction Nigeria Limited emerged as the contractor after “passing through serious processes leading to the award of the contract.”

The contractor pledged to deliver the project to the highest standards and on time.

“Our team is dedicated to meeting and exceeding all expectations with the commitment to excellence that mirrors the whole,” the head of the team said.

Kano residents had often complained about frequent auto accidents around the Murtala Mohammed area.

They had also grumbled about the absence of traffic lights.
