The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) says its fuel stations will operate longer hours to reduce the queues built up over fuel scarcity in the last week.

On Monday, the company also said petrol trucking turnaround time has been extended.

During a joint station inspection with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), the NNPC's Executive Vice President for Downstream, Dapo Segun, said a lapse in petrol discharge from ships to shore caused the fuel scarcity.

He added that ship-to-shore discharge was suspended during last week's thunderstorms in Lagos, because of the volatility of petrol

“This also affected the loading of trucks at the depot because of safety reasons, so we had to suspend all that during thunderstorms and that’s why you see this tightness.

“Though we have a challenge over the bad portions of motorways which deteriorated due to rains and floods across the country, we will ensure that we are loading out all through the weekend and that we are mobilizing trucks," he said.
