The Federal Government has declared Monday and Tuesday as public holidays to mark this year’s Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, announced the holiday schedule for the Muslim festival, which marks the end of Ramadan.
Eid-el-Fitr is observed globally by Muslims after a month-long fasting period lasting 29 or 30 days.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, urged all Muslims to uphold the virtues of self-discipline, compassion, generosity, and peace. He emphasized the importance of love, forgiveness, and solidarity in fostering national unity.
The minister also called on Nigerians to pray for peace, stability, and prosperity in the country during the festive period.
“Dr. Tunji-Ojo also encouraged citizens to celebrate safely and responsibly, while remembering the less privileged through acts of kindness and charity, in keeping with the true spirit of Ramadan and Eid,” the statement read.
On behalf of the Federal Government, the minister extended his best wishes to all Muslim faithful, expressing hope that the blessings of the season bring happiness, success, and fulfillment to all.
