The federal government has revoked 924 dormant mining licenses spanning exploration, mining, and quarrying.
The minister of solid minerals development, Dele Alake told a press conference in Abuja that it was to sanitize the mining sector.
He said adequate notice was given to all concerned parties through the official Gazette of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, No. 227, published on 27 December 2023.
In the notice, the parties were given 30 days to regularize their status, including clarifications on why their licenses were dormant, Alake disclosed.
He added that his ministry followed due process and fair consideration while underscoring the government’s commitment to implementing a “use it or lose it” policy as enshrined in the mining guidelines.
