Electricity Workers in Kano have picketed the State Transmission Station, over pending labour issues with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

The members of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) arrived at the TCN office at 7 am and locked the company’s entrance gate.

The Coordinator of NUEE in the North West Zone, Ado Riruwai said the TCN has been stigmatizing staff from the office of the Head of Service (HoS) of the Federation.

The union is also accusing the market operator of failing to pay the entitlement of former staff of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) Staff as agreed in December 2019.

“The transmission company has failed to address the pressing issue that is affecting all of us the workers.

“The management doesn't play by the rule of the conditions of service. They just do whatever they wish to.

“Three years ago they signed an agreement with our national body to address pending issues, including the entitlement of PHCN disengaged staff.

“Unfortunately, till now nothing has been done,” he said.

Comrade Riruwai further said the union was waiting for further directives from its national body before shutting down the State Transmission Station later in the day.

“As you can see we have locked the entrances of the transmission station.

“Right now, we are just waiting for further directives from our national body on whether we should shut down the transmission station or not,” he added.
