The Department of State Devices (DSS) has asked the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and other oil marketers to address Nigeria’s fuel scarcity challenge within 48 hours.

The Public Relations Officer of the DSS, Peter Afunanya said this on Thursday in Abuja while briefing newsmen at the end of a meeting with the marketers.

He said the meeting was attended by representatives of the DSS, NNPC Limited, the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, and the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria.

Afunanya said part of the resolutions reached was that the NNPC would provide fuel at the official rate to all the marketers.

He said the meeting also resolved that marketers who operate depots would work round-the-clock to ensure an adequate supply of fuel in the country.

The DSS will provide protection and security to all marketers as they move their products across the country.

Afunanya said the DSS would take action against any filling station,  marketer, or oil stakeholder that reneged on the agreement reached at the meeting.

The DSS spokesman said the lingering fuel scarcity could lead to economic sabotage and could pose a threat to national security.
