The Nobel Prize laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, has stated that the singer, Davido, owes no apology to Muslims over the music video that caused controversy in Nigeria last week.

Davido’s Music Worldwide label and its signee, Olamilekan Taiwo, who is also known as Logos Olori, attracted the attention of netizens (online citizens) when Davido posted a video teaser of the latter's new record, "Jaye lo".

The 45-second clip, posted on Friday by Davido on his social media platforms, was criticized by the Muslim community for showing men dancing in front of a mosque rather than praying.

The critics labeled the post offensive and demanded the video’s withdrawal and an apology.

Davido took down the video 48 hours after it was posted, but the Muslim community is still demanding an apology.

Soyinka, however, says the former governor of Kaduna State,  Nasir El Rufai, wasn't forced to apologize when he posted a comment the Christian community considered offensive.

The Nobel laureate’s position is in a statement he released on Tuesday.
