Dangote Petroleum Refinery has denied initiating a new case against the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited.

According to reports, the Dangote refinery initiated legal proceedings to annul refined petroleum products import licenses granted to the NNPC and other oil marketers.

Anthony Chiejina, the group's chief branding and communications officer, stated in a statement on Monday that the litigation has been in court since June and that Dangote Refinery intends to withdraw the case in January 2025.

“This is an old issue that started in June and culminated in a matter being filed on September 6, 2024,” the company said.

“Currently, the parties are in discussion since President Bola Tinubu’s directive on crude oil and refined products sales in naira Initiative, which was approved by the Federal Executive Council.

“We have made tremendous progress in that regard, and events have overtaken this development.

“No party has been served with court processes and there is no intention of doing so. We have agreed to put a halt to the proceedings."

The Dangote refinery and the NNPC have been involved in counter-accusations since Aliko Dangote announced the production of petrol from his refinery.

They culminated in the businessman alleging that top NNPC officials owned a fuel blending plant in Malta, and were frustrating his refinery's efforts at kicking off petrol production.
