A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has ordered the Rivers State Government to appear before it and justify why a motion seeking to stop him from appointing administrators for the 23 local government areas (LGAs) of the state, should not be granted by the court.

The order followed an ex parte motion filed by Pilex Centre for Civic Education Initiative and its Coordinator, Courage Nsirimovu, who is seeking to restrain the Rivers State Administrator, his agents, or anyone acting on his behalf or under his authority, from appointing Sole Administrators (or any similar designation) for the 23 Local Government Areas of Rivers State.

In the suit marked FHC/PH/CS/46/2025, the applicants sought an interim injunction restraining the state government from appointing Sole Administrators or persons under any such designation to oversee the LGAs.

Presiding Judge Justice Adamu Turaki Mohammed, ordered that it would serve the interest of justice for the Respondent to be placed on notice. The court directed the Rivers State Government to appear and show cause why the interim injunction should not be granted.

The judge also ordered that a hearing notice be issued to the Respondent and adjourned the matter to April 14, 2025, for further hearing.

As of press time, the state government has not issued an official response to the court’s directive.
