President Muhammadu Buhari has directed security chiefs to ensure the immediate and safe rescue of all persons currently held captive by bandits and terrorists in Nigeria.

The president expressed his displeasure at the recent abductions in parts of Nigeria when he chaired the National Security Council meeting at the State House in Abuja on Thursday.

His directive came after the National Security Adviser (NSA), Gen. Babagana Mongunu (rtd) presented a memo on the prevailing security challenges in Nigeria.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Monguno told journalists that the president used the recent abduction of the Kaduna train travelers as a reference point when he addressed the security chiefs.

“The president is using that as a reference point to let the security agencies know that they have an obligation to get everybody, every innocent soul that is in captivity out of captivity,” he said.

“Now, the way and manner in which they will be rescued is beyond me. It’s not something I’m willing to disclose, because that in itself can become a springboard for compromising whatever effort will be put in place,” he concluded.

The NSA said Nigeria will be securing its borders from infiltration and also called on citizens to help the security agencies with human intelligence.
