The security situation across Nigeria topped the agenda at the National Assembly on Wednesday with Senators expressing shock over the suicide bombings in Gwoza town in Borno State on Saturday 29 June.

Deliberating on a motion moved by Senator Ali Ndume, the lawmakers spent hours discussing insecurity. They blamed the recent bombings on intelligence failure.

They lampooned the security chiefs and said the government needs to deploy modern technology and scientific tactics.

In his lead debate, Senator Ndume worried about the lives lost to the bombings.

After deliberations on the motion, the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, sent his condolences to the victims, the government, and the people of Borno State.

The Senate directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief and medical support to the victims.
