Maiduguri residents and businesses are facing new regulations as the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board enforces a strict ban on street hawking and various illegal activities in the Maiduguri metropolis.
This action is part of the government's ongoing efforts to promote a cleaner, safer, and more organized urban environment.
In a statement released on Friday, the General Manager of the board, Mr. Limán Mustapha, highlighted several key restrictions.
These include the prohibition of street hawking, operation of tricycles, and the presence of generator mechanics near key locations such as the Post Office and Monday Market.
The board also banned activities on pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts, alongside the sale of engine oil on road reservations.
Additionally, illegal construction practices have come under scrutiny. The mixing of cement, dumping of sand or building materials, and the construction of boreholes along roadsides have all been outlawed.
“The board has no alternative but to arrest and prosecute defaulters in a court of law,” Mustapha stated
To facilitate the implementation of the law, those found in violation of these regulations are being instructed to vacate the areas immediately.
Mustapha further called for full compliance, urging residents and business owners to avoid legal consequences by respecting the new urban planning rules.
